Professor G Parthasarathy FNA, Adjunct Professor of NIAS, has been awarded the prestigious DAE-Raja Ramanna Chair Professorship by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. He shall be researching Minerals at DAE-Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Southern Region, Bengaluru. Professor Gopalakrishnarao Parthasarathy, after school education at Chidambaram , Tamil Nadu, he has obtained First Class, and First Rank in B.Sc (Physics) and M.Sc in Physics from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu;
He obtained PhD in Physics in 1984 from Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore, Karnataka. Served as a Faculty at IISc during 1984-89; He was a
faculty at Materials Research center, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during
1984‐89. Visiting Fellow at Cornell University 1989-1990; Since 1990 has been
working on in Earth and Planetary materials science at CSIR-NGRI till 2018 .
After superannuation from CSIR-NGRI he joined as an Adjunct Professor
and INSA Senior Scientist at School of Natural Sciences and Engineering,
National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, President of Indian
Social Science Academy 2021-2022;
1990-2018 :During his tenure at CSIR-National Geophysical Research
Institute, he initiated new research programs like “ Mineral Physics” “
Nanogeoscience” and “Environmental Mineralogy” at CSIR-NGRI.
He has also made outstanding contributions on the terrestrial analogs of
Martian and Lunar surface materials. He has published about 320 research papers
in peer reviewed, and 8 international patents to his credit in the area of condensed
matter Physics, Experimental Mineralogy and Materials Science, Earth and
Planetary sciences and Environmental Social Science.
