In recent years Lithium has emerged as one of the most promising critical metals driving the global green energy transition. It is extracted from geological resources including pegmatites, granites, clays, and brines. Here, we report a finding of high concentrations of Li (up to ~1000 ppm) in the Paleoproterozoic dolomite samples of the Papaghni Group, the Vempalle formation (1.9-2.0 Ga) of the Cuddapah Supergroup. High lithium concentrations are observed in samples from two drill cores in the Tummalpalle area, which is known for uranium mineralization. The Vempalle Formation hosting the Li-rich dolomites is also known for the occurrence of evaporite sequences. The Li-rich dolomite strata occur both below and above the evaporite-bearing carbonate beds.
