Improved realistic stratification model for estimating thermocline thickness in vertical thermal energy storage undergoing simultaneous charging and discharging
Simultaneous charging and discharging operations of thermal energy storages render effective energy-harnessing features. However, it leads to thermocline formation due to the dynamic interplay between energy input, energy extraction, and losses. Reliable retention of good thermodynamic quality of energy is realized by minimizing the energy degradation and thermocline thickness. Near real-time tracking of heat content degradation is a tedious task for real-sized storage systems, which involves accurate quantification of the temporal evolution of thermocline thickness.
Spatio-temporal variability and possible source identification of criteria pollutants from Ahmedabad-a megacity of Western India
This study addresses the spatio-temporal variability and plausible sources of criteria air pollutants in the Western Indian city-Ahmedabad. The air pollutants PM10, PM2.5, O3, NO2, SO2, and CO have been analyzed at ten locations in Ahmedabad from 2017 to 2019. The seasonal variability indicates that the air pollutant concentration is highest during winter, followed by pre-monsoon, post-monsoon, and monsoon seasons. The concentration of PM2.5 (59.52 ± 16.68–89.72 ± 20.68) and PM10 (107.25 ± 30.43–176.04 ± 38.34) crosses the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) in all seasons.
Sub-segment-based approach for assessing growth and energy transition trajectories of Indian two-wheelers
The transition trajectory of India's two-wheeler (2W) vehicle segment is studied using a sequential modelling framework for projecting sub-segment-wise 2W fleet, energy demand, and associated CO2 emissions. Road density per capita was identified as a more significant explanatory variable than GDP per capita in estimating 2W fleet size in India. The elasticity method was used to evaluate the 2W vehicle saturation level based on five different indirect parameters.
Molecular modelling reveals how abundance of α4 sub-type in synaptic GABARA receptor can lead to refractoriness toward GABA and BZ-type drugs
This work suggests a mechanism for development of drug resistance in epilepsy patients, when the post-synaptic neurons express non-standard ALPHA4 proteins in the synaptic GABARA receptor. The structural details can be useful in developing drugs effective against resistant epilepsy.
Occurrence of natural fullerene C60 from the iridium-rich Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) boundary layers of the Um-Sohryngkew river section, Meghalaya, India
A marine section from Um Sohryngkew riverbasin, in Meghalaya, have been studied for serach of fullerenes and associated carbon polymorphs . This section is known for Ir-enrichment with an order of magnitude enhancement of Ir and Os, accompanied by unambiguous extinction of planktonic foraminifera, is found in a cm thicklimonitic clay layer in this section..Peak iridium concentration is found to be 13 ng/g.
Model simulation of carbonaceous fine particulate matter using SAFAR emission inventory and comparison with EDGAR-HTAP simulations
In this study, the evaluation of carbonaceous fine particulate matter (C-PM) was conducted using the SAFAR-India regional model. Two emission inventories were utilized: the newly developed SAFAR inventory and the global EDGAR-HTAP inventory, both for the year 2018.
