Unusual high Lithium concentration in dolomites associated with evaporites of Paleoproterozoic Vempalle Formation, Cuddapah Supergroup, South India
In recent years Lithium has emerged as one of the most promising critical metals driving the global green energy transition. It is extracted from geological resources including pegmatites, granites, clays, and brines. Here, we report a finding of high concentrations of Li (up to ~1000 ppm) in the Paleoproterozoic dolomite samples of the Papaghni Group, the Vempalle formation (1.9-2.0 Ga) of the Cuddapah Supergroup. High lithium concentrations are observed in samples from two drill cores in the Tummalpalle area, which is known for uranium mineralization.
