Nevertheless, these methods alone frequently fail to sustainably satisfy the increasing food demand. Gene-edited crops modify a plant's existing genes without introducing foreign DNA, hence enhancing its natural activities.

Enhancing this access is urgently required as a public health safeguard and a necessity for adaptation to climate change. Cooling is no longer a matter of comfort for the global South, but a frontline adaptation need.
