

Prakash Pannerselvam is an Assistant Professor with the International Strategic & Security Studies Programme, National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, India. He holds a PhD in Japanese Studies, from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He was the first Visiting Fellow at Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) Staff College, Tokyo. He is a recipient of the Japan Foundation Fellow (2011) and Okita Memorial Fellowship (2008). Prakash also co-authored a book on “Underwater Domain Awareness: Case for India,” Routledge 2022.
Prior to joining NIAS, he was working with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Defence & Aerospace Sector. Where he assisted a committee of experts for amendments of DPP 2013 & formulation of a policy framework for the Defence Procurement Procedure. Dr Prakash was also part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) committee in identifying an Industry partner for the T-72 Engine upgrade; coordinated for Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) for Aircraft Industry for India in Japan. Prakash was also a trained merchant mariner with Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Ltd.
