Abstract: The November 2024 US elections have elected Donald Trump for a second term and has given the Republican party a majority in Congress. President Biden has promised an orderly transition, and Trump has already made a few announcements on key members of his administration. The lecture aims to address the following questions: What does this victory mean for the US and its relations with the rest of the world? How will big power politics shape, especially with China, Russia and Europe? How will the US respond to two key conflict theatres – Ukraine and the Middle East? From East Asia to Latin America, how will the regional politics evolve? Will Trump’s efforts to “Make America Great Again” unmake the existing world order?

About the speaker:   Prof. D Suba Chandran is Dean of the School of Conflict and Security Studies at NIAS, and the Editor of two weeklies - The World This Week and Conflict Weekly.
