Abstract: The state of contemporary global politics has been one of the primary focus areas of the Science, Technology and International Relations Programme at NIAS within the School of Conflict and Security Studies. As we are in the beginning of another year, what is the current state of world affairs in 2024? What were the major developments during the previous year? What factors/developments are likely to shape this year?
The lecture aims to present major developments that need to be watched in 2024 that include significant elections during the year, big power politics and their global/regional fallouts, regional developments and their global implications, and other significant developments that would impact spaces – from maritime to AI.
About the speaker: Prof D Suba Chandran is the Dean of the School of Conflict and Security Studies. He teaches a course on global politics and contemporary world affairs and is the editor of two NIAS weeklies – The World This Week (TWTW) and Conflict Weekly.
