About the Panel discussion: Science, while rooted in empirical methods, often unfolds as a deeper existential pursuit. The discussion on "Science and the Search for Meaning" explores how scientific inquiry is shaped by a yearning for meaning and transcendence. This intrinsic yearning reveals itself through four interwoven dimensions: our connection to nature, relationships with the other, exploration of the self, and engagement with an unknown, transcendent reality. In India, scientific work has long engaged with philosophical traditions that emphasize interconnectedness and integral knowledge. Indian scientists often straddle empirical approaches and reflective practices shaped by cultural and metaphysical pluralism. The unknown in science evokes not only rational curiosity but also existential questions about life, purpose, and reality. In this seminar the panelists will critically examine how the varied dimensions of the beyond influence science, technology and meaning-making. The poster below has more details. Do attend and do not miss this unique meeting.
