Abstract: International Space Law is an active sub-universe of public international law and one where theory is being tested by rapidly evolving practice. After situating international space law in the broader frame of public international law (historically and in terms of its core legal instruments), the lecture shall assess the state of play in three relevant and future-shaping sub-debates in the field: appropriation, militarization, and liability.

About the speaker:  Manu Sanan is a lawyer with over a decade of experience in prominent jurisdictions across the world – with substantial experience in representing sovereigns in international law disputes before several international fora, including the ICJ and the WTO. Among others, he has previously represented the Indian government before the Supreme Court as well as in several international treaty disputes, including a prominent dispute related to satellites. He practices in New Delhi.
