Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. The official journey of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on 12th March, 2021 which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence. Till date more than 1.64+ lakh official programmes have been done across all parts of India and the world as part of Amrit Mahotsav.

There have been many milestone achievements during this journey of seventy-five years. The NIAS - AKAM outreach effort branded 'India @75 - Journey of a Young Nation' aims to script these achievements in the form of audio-visual and transcribed outputs. The important milestones and achievements of India would be captured via interviews through the eyes of leaders, experts, technocrats and others who have played a significant part in the growth story of India. The interviews would be done between 12th May 2023 - 10th August 2023.

There are nine themes of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which are aligned with the ‘Panch Pran’ announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister. These include Women and Children, Tribal Empowerment, Water, Cultural Pride, Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), Health and Wellness, Inclusive Development, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Unity. The idea of the activity is based on collectively documenting and celebrating the story of growth and empowerment in the country across various domains.

These would finally take the form of documentary-interviews, articles and blogs on a dedicated website. There will also be a seminar and other outreach activities as part of the overall 'India @75 - Journey of a Young Nation' initiative.

Dr Shailesh Gaur, Adjunct Professor & (PI) 9019386374 and Dr. Amit Mukherjee, Assistant Professor (Co-PI) 0080-22185161 / 8095961971 are coordinating the project and shall be available for any further communication at akam@nias.res.in.
